Generation Relevant was developed in 2003 with the idea of reaching students ages 6-18 with a positive message through a medium they could relate to--music. Westheart successfully developed a very similar program in the 1990’s and was the basis from which I gleaned ideas, experiences, and mentorship. My past experience includes traveling for years in my own band, entertainment agent, and concert promoter. These positions played a very important role, not only in the logistics of putting GR together, but more importantly the need for it. Out of these experiences along with wanting something different for my own children Generation Relevant was born.
Having this base to work from, I believe that music has a lasting power to influence -- whether that influence source is positive or negative. My recollection of my first concert left memories for a life time that unfortunately would be considered far from positive. We only get one first, and I believe that there is a way to help insure that the first concert a student experiences is a positive influence. It’s called Generation Relevant.
